SYPNOSIS

Deciding to take a holiday, The Doctor and Mel go to Paradise Towers. Upon their arrival, however, they find the famed complex in ruins. It transpires that, long ago, the adults all went off to fight a war and never returned. Now the only ones left are the Kangs, riotous gangs of teenaged girls, the Rezzies, cannibalistic old women, the Caretakers, who ostensibly look after the Towers, and the cowardly Pex, who had been too scared to go off to war. But another entity also lurks in Paradise Towers: Kroagnon, the building’s architect, who has taken mental possession of the Chief Caretaker and the cleaning robots in an attempt to rid his creation of human life forever.

NOTES

  • Nisha Nayar, an uncredited extra playing one of the Red Kangs, later appeared in a more substantial speaking part as the Female Programmer in the 2005 two-part story “Bad Wolf” and “The Parting of the Ways“. This made her the second performer to appear in both the classic and new series of Doctor Who.
  • Julie Brennon, who played Fire Escape, was married at the time to Mark Strickson, who had been the Fifth Doctor’s companion Vislor Turlough.
  • Features a guest appearance by Richard Briers as the Chief Caretaker who also later appears in the Torchwood episode A Day in the Death as Henry Parker. See also Celebrity appearances in Doctor Who.
  • Clive Merrison previously played Jim Callum in The Tomb of the Cybermen.
  • Kroagnon was also responsible for Golden Dream Park, the Bridge of Perpetual Motion and Miracle City.
  • The TARDIS swimming pool was leaking and has been jettisoned.
  • There is, according to The Doctor, a spectacular pool on the planet Griophos, although it is for the exclusive use of the Gulmeri, flesh eating octopi.
  • The Robotic Self activating Megapodic Mark 7Z Cleaners have oxymotive blades.
  • The Doctor describes an antique telephone as a splendid piece of audioarchitectonicalmetrasynchosity.
  • Kroagnon ‘transplants’ his brain into the Chief Caretaker’s body via corpoelectroscopy.
  • A 327 appendix 3, subsection 9 death is a form of execution listed in the Paradise Towers Caretakers’ rulebook.
